Recording in the FortiVoice audio format.
This document will help you to make a recording in the format that is required by the FortiVoice phone system. These recordings can be used for your Auto Attendant or VoiceMail greetings. You could even use this method to record audio that is playing on your computer, if you wanted to load your own Music On Hold into the FortiVoice.
To start you will need a free, robust audio program called Audacity, you can find that here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Once you have this installed, and you have a microphone connected to your computer, you’re ready to start recording your greeting.
Audacity cannot natively record in the format that FortiVoice requires, therefore some adjustments need to be made in the software. Simply follow through with these steps and you’ll be on your way to making your own FortiVoice recordings.
1. To start, click on Edit and then Preferences, you’ll see the Audacity Preferences window pop up.
2. On the Devices tab, change the Channels drop down menu to Mono.
3. Click on the Quality tab. Change the Default Sample Rate to 8000 Hz (this is the 8khz part of the required format). Change the Default Sample Format to 16 bit.
4. Click OK.
Now you’re ready to start recording!
Press the Record button when ready to start recording your greeting. Press Stop once you're done.
Now that you’ve got your recording and you’re happy with it, it’s time to save this to work with the FortiVoice.
1. Click on File and choose Export.
2. Next to Save As Type, choose Other compressed files.
3. Click Options at the bottom-right corner.
4. Change the Encoding drop-down to U-law. Click OK.
5. Choose the directory that you would like to save the recording in and then press Save.
You’ve now got a recording that you can load into the FortiVoice.
